Official Welcome and Opening Discussion: International Postdoc Experience: Just Nice to Have?

Even though experience working abroad is not explicitly required to qualify for a German professorship, experience in another country can be seen as an advantage in the application process. Of course, this varies from discipline to discipline.

For this reason, we would like to take a closer look at the following questions: What are the benefits of a research stay abroad and how does this experience contribute to a career? How important is timing? How long should a stay abroad be to have a substantial impact? And can some of these effects nowadays also be achieved in international collaborations that take place primarily in virtual spaces?

We will discuss these and other topics with established researchers from different disciplines and with sound international experience.
